Both active in the rodeo industry, Jade and Selena Pope are eager to share their love for America's original sport and the life of the American Cowboy with young ladies throughout the nation.  They were married on June 16, 2006 and have been enjoying their life together. They recently welcomed their first son, Steehl Taige Pope, into the world! What a little buckaroo he is already!

Selena (Ulch) Pope is an accomplished and well-respected woman both in and out of the arena.  She served the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association as Miss Rodeo America 2005 and has remained active in the rodeo queen world ever since.  In 2006, she served on the Miss Rodeo America Executive Board.  She has been a clinician at several rodeo queen clinics and a judge at numerous pageants throughout the nation.  Currently, Selena is using her scholarships from the Miss Rodeo America Foundation to complete her Bachelor's Degree in Biology.  She holds three Associate Degrees in Art, Science and Secondary Education.

Jade has been active in rodeo since he was a child.  He excels in Steer Wrestling and Tie-Down Roping.  In 2003, he competed at the National High School Rodeo Finals representing the state of Idaho. He served a two year church mission in Arizona and New Mexico.  He loved the mission, but the hot weather was an obstacle for this Wyoming cowboy.  Jade has been instrumental in the success of the Pope family ranch.  From doctoring calves to haying, he has played an active role in the agricultural industry and he is proud to be an American Cowboy.

The Roper and the Rodeo Queen

When Jade was just a little boy
He started packin' a rope
With Cowboy brothers it was natural
Besides, his name was Pope!

He cut his teeth on a piggin' string
and he grew up in the saddle
though he was the youngest he held his own
whether playin' or workin' cattle

I can't say that Jade was a scholarly lad
Don't get me wrong, he's no fool
It's just that he felt life's best lessons are
learned on the outside, not inside of school!

He loved ropin', ridin', family and fun
he loved ropin' and wrestling and pals
he loved ropin' and horses, four-wheelers and guns
he loved rodeo... and rodeo gals.

At the age when many a young man chooses
between a Chevy, a Dodge and a Ford,
Jade chose a mission for the church
and swung a wide loop for the Lord.

At the end of 2 hard and rewarding years
beneath Arizona's sun
Jade met Selena, the rodeo queen,
who'd have guessed that she was the one?

Selena, like Jade, was the youngest child,
A blonde who played ballerina,
she liked to play dress up; perhaps she dreamed
that she'd one day dress up the arena.

She used to ride her pony Sunset
at the horseshow every year
she must have liked the competition
and she seemed to have no fear.

She was always an excellent student
even scholarly you might say
she earned awards and scholarships
was a cheerleader and loved FFA.

She rode a big Appy named Patrick
tall and ugly with spots on his rump
he hardly had any tail at all
but he and Selena could jump.

Selena earned the first of her titles
as Susanville's Rodeo Queen.
She started collecting buckles and crowns
when she was still a teen.

She was queen of Reno's rodeo,
and Nevada's Rodeo Queen
and then Miss Rodeo America
(the only one we've ever seen!)

A few months back and introduction was made
between the roper and this rodeo queen
it looked like it might be the last go-round
the final... you know what I mean.

Now Jade had seen rodeo gals before her
but Selena stood apart from the group
Yeah, Jade had his eye on the jackpot
and he started building a loop!

Selena had honors, and titles, and crowns,
more than most girls could hope,
but one title was starting to sound pretty good,
that title was Mrs. Jade Pope.

And so on an early morning in June,
In a moment when time stood still,
Jade and Selena were married forever,
In a temple that stood on a hill.

So who caught who?  You may wonder.
Well I'll explain that and tell you no lies.
See... Jade roped her, but she tied the hooey
and they both made the catch of their lives.
